Tool Of The Month (January 2024)

Prayer journal

Hello everyone! I am very excited to bring you the first Tool of the Month.

I figured I would start with what I have found to be the second most important tool in my collection. The most important tool of course is the Bible. Making sure you start everything there is not just a cool hack I've found to life, or something only a 'serious missionary' would do. Starting with the Bible is essential to living, really truly living. The very next important thing is prayer. If you start with the Bible, the next natural thing is to pray. In the Bible it says,

"I love the LORD, because He hears my voice and my cry.
Because He has inclined His ear to me,
I will call upon Him as long as I live."       - Psalm 116:1

Something I have found a useful tool in praying is keeping a prayer journal of sorts. Recording what I have asked of the Lord, and how He has answered. Describing what God has said, how He led, where He has been faithful. It is a rather encouraging thing to see a record of God's faithfulness. It can be set up with dates and check boxes for the list and precision type folks, and it can be drawings or stories or poems for the grand and creative type friends.

"I shall remember the deeds of the LORD; I will certainly remember Your wonders of old.
I will meditate on all Your work, and on Your deeds with thanksgiving.
Your way God, is holy; what god is great like our God? You are the God who works wonders;
You have made known Your strength among the peoples."        - Psalm 77:11-14

This tool is especially handy when you feel discouraged, or when you want to encourage someone you know. God is gracious, and He hears our prayers! It also helps with keeping an attitude of praying all day long as you work, you tend to be less frustrated when you can ask God to help you with everything in your life, from trying to find that one washer you dropped into the abyss, or praying that the flights done that day will return to terra firma safely (and without broken things we need to fix).

I know this might seem like a bit time consuming of a method, writing so much down, so I have found a useful time saving trick for it.

I use pictures of people (or of random squirrels on a bench) in my phone, and then add in the notes the prayer requests they have. I will scroll through the photos and pray for them as often as I can. If I can't remember what to pray for I look at the notes. When there is an answer to prayer I can write it in my notebook.

Hopefully that was interesting/fun for y'all! Remember, God hears and answers prayer, and He wants you to pray to Him!

Until next time,

 - Mechanik
