A favorite quote of mine from former President Eisenhower. It sums up well what has been going on these last couple months.

 

 

I am working through replacing basically everything in my front disc brakes. It is a nice big project and will take a good bit of time. Also, this week inaugurates snowy season for Spokane.

 

 

Sidenote, I haven't named my truck, just because I don't name things often, and am open to suggestions!

 

 

Back to useless plans. We were supposed to run the turbine engines on the U-21, and I was going to make the blog post about that with a video of it, but alas, there were fuel problems. It is a good thing that we are learning/have learned how to do those things.

 

 

On a different note, I am still working to restore the Jacobs Radial engine with my classmates. The latest is this control panel, with a throttle and mixture control. And I am also working on meeting with a mechanic from the museum next door who may know about how to wire the ignition system.

 

 

Here is the inside of the magneto, it has a manual control to retard or advance the spark for starting. For a magneto, you want the spark to fire later, because the engine hasn't picked up momentum yet, and the spark would cause the piston to kick back, damaging everything. Typically there is a spring loaded coupling on the end that does that, but this one the points move over.

As for planning, I am thinking about what next year will look like doing a bit of flight. I wont have as much time and am trying to plan out what commitments I can keep and which ones I need to let go of. May the Lord give me His good counsel.
