Look Ahead

I've been reading these passages and meditating on them. I thought I would encourage you to do the same, and consider the answers to the questions as well. I've found that when I write down questions, it helps me think and search my heart by the scriptures better. Also, I'm curious: what scripture have you been pondering lately? What questions have you been asking yourself?

“Above all else, guard your heart for everything you do flows from it. Keep your mouth free of perversity: keep corrupt talk far from your lips. Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your feet from evil.”
-Proverbs 4:23, 25-26

“No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thorn bushes, or grapes from briers. A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of."
-Luke 6:43-45

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and rust destroy and thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is there your heart will be also. ‘The eye of the lamp is the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness, how great is that darkness!’”
-Matthew 6:19-23

“And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule and reign in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
-Colossians 3:14-17

What is overflowing from my heart? Listen and see.
Where specifically is that coming from?
Am I more at peace, thankful, wise, in a posture of worship, or honoring to the Lord?
How could I be more so?

What is straight ahead, end goal? What should be?
What is directly before, what's next?

Is my goal of being closer to Jesus, and glorifying His name achieved by _____ ?

What step on the path can I be careful for?

Where am I treating the direction God has given me as my own idea?

Where am I trusting myself to live it out instead of relying on God’s power?
Where am I working so hard thinking about it and trying to be careful to do it right, that I miss the goal, by missing the next small step?

Where am I trying my ideas so much that I miss the weight of God’s call, and miss out on the things He has for me?
What is the next small step?
