Catching Your Wind

I recently was studying closer into Proverbs 14:29, “Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly.”

And I read it in Hebrew, “The one of long nostrils is great of understanding but the one of short spirit worships folly.”

I found the analogy fascinating. In Hebrew they think of being angry as smoke coming out of your nose or your face being dark, so having long nostrils means that it takes a while for the smoke to get out, giving you time to cool down. Then to emphasize another side of it, spirit is also the same word as wind. So, someone who has a patience that is out of breath, out of shape, is worshiping foolery. Not only are you giving anger a place in your heart next to God, but you are also making room for folly there too. The definition of folly is someone who is not wise, some one who is wise is someone acquainted with the Truth. Do not play the fool, don't become acquainted with lies, search for the Truth. Exercise your patience, catch your wind, have a long nose, and grow closer to God.

Shalom!
